Use Your TV Remote to Control Your Apple TV

My Apple TV remote is broken, for some reason the “up” button stopped working – navigating without it is imposible. The good thins is like any other iPhone user, I already set “Home Sharing” on the setup box allowing me to use my phone to navigate the menu. Everything went smooth as I never had to use the IR remote ever again. Until, I accidentally disabled “Home Share” on the Apple TV – I forgot that it will disable using my iPhone as a remote.

To my frustration I almost ended up buying a new remote. After searching the web, I found out that I can actually use my HD TV’s remote to control the Apple TV so I borrowed my friend ATV remote and set my LG remote. The beauty of this is that I don’t have to look

for the unibody ATV remote, I can control it using my TV’s remote. The good thing about the LG remote is that the navigation and playback controls are disabled in HDMI mode making it work seamlessly with the Apple TV. It’s also better to

hold than the flimsy ATV remote that I often drop on the floor.
