Visual Hub: Free Mac Video Converter
The best Video Converter for Mac was Visual Hub, it is still the best however Techspansion the guys behind the open source application discontinues the application, it’s still usable and will work on Snow Leopard but the caveat is the application may not run future Mac OS and may not support updated video formats.
You cannot download it from the developers site but I found a download link (see below). I’m still using the app and it still works fine, if you have it on you mac and you want to use the application on another mac you can do this by following simple instructions Techspansion Provided on their site.

Visual Hub supports the following Video Codecs
- All QuickTime Codecs
- MPEG-1
- MPEG-2
- MPEG-4 (DivX, XviD, etc)
- MSMPEG4
- WMV7
- WMV8 (partial)
- WMV9
- H.263
- H.264
- Flash Video 6/7 (Sorenson Spark)
- Flash Video 8 (VP62)
- MotionJPEG

List of Suported Audio Codecs
- All QuickTime Codecs

Does anybody have a work around for VHub error? I love this app but I keep getting an error —- Can’t get text item 1 of “”. (-1728)
What does this mean?
I downloaded VH in my snow leopard mac, but it keeps saying it’s for PC’s. What am I missing???
I think you need to use other Visual Hub alternative. Try Handbrake.
Where is the download link?? :’(
here goes.. http://www.machoe.com/wp-content/uploads/visualhub.dmg
enjoy…
I used this link and the registration info you gave and it still only converts about 5 seconds of video. Any advice?
I would suggest that you use other software, try handbreak.
Did you ever get Visual Hub to work for you?
Is there a way to still download this?
Hi –
The Download link you provided is not working – leads to a “No file here” page.
If this is just no longer available, does anyone have a suggestion for a video_ts file converter for Mac Leopard 10.5? I have a PowerPC G5 so most of the converters I am finding won’t work because I don’t have an Intel processor.
For the record, I am just trying to convert a video_ts file to .mov.
Thanks!
In the Advanced Settings box I can change a movie’s aspect ratio any way I want to, using the Size boxes, and this change will show in the Preview box–but I can’t get this change to apply to the file VH produces. The new movie has the same aspect ratio as the original. What am I missing?
Thanks Robert. I got to install the new Techspansion folder (temporarily copying the original to my desktop). I’ve never worked with patches, much less how to install this one, I don’t even know if I need it….but I will test the binary changes tonight and get back to you.
Not sure if my binary would work for you but I have seen something like this during my DVD to MP4 encodes. It seems VisualHub sometimes loses track of the vh131ffmpeg process. Usually rebooting fixes this problem for awhile.
You could try my binary. It’s simple to install. When you extract the contents, you will get a Techspansion folder. Drop this into the /Library/Application Support folder (remember to make a copy of the old Techspansion folder first).
I did help someone else who had a 12 core Mac. He had a problem of burning an XVID file to DVD. VisualHub would stop and not burn the file. Turns out that VisualHub was passing the wrong number of threads (too many threads) to ffmpeg. Try putting “-threads 0″ in the Extra flags box under the advanced setting window. This will let ffmpeg detect the correct number.
Someone…anyone…? Would Robert’s method work – upgrading the ffmpeg binary to the latest release? I’m not sure how to go about that so if anyone would please chime in, it would be GREATLY appreciated..
Thanks
I’ve been using Visualhub for some years now and am IN LOVE with it…it’s the best sw I’ve used to burn movies on DVD for later viewing.
Unfortunately it’s not been responding the way I’d expect: You know that 1 of 4 steps it takes before finally burning the DVD? That first step processes through up until there’s about a few minutes left, and it stays there…waiting…at the progress bar…chillin…then gives me that, “Looks like I lied. It will be longer…” blah blah blah..
It was working fine up until last week. No changes have been made and I tried to uninstall/reinstall, including re-entering the SN but nothing. It continues to do the same.
Anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this mishap? I’m starting to feel the pained loss of a great software…
I feel for you bro…
You’re a great guy! Thank you for helping without asking a thing back
Take care
M
I have been using VisualHub for the last 2 years. Last year I decided to see if I could upgrade the ffmpeg binary to the latest release. I have posted my update over at the sourceforge TranscoderRedux project page under the Open Discussions forum.
To those who need help with multiple episodes you will need to rip the episodes individually using MakeMKV (PC/MAC), DVDFab HD Decrypter (PC) or AnyDVD (PC). VisualHub will only read the longest title on a DVD.
arigatou gozaimasu….
I have disks that each have several episodes of a tv show on them. When I do the conversion it only converts the first episode. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
JUST KIDDING!
Thank you so much!
I tried your registration name, e-mail and code and it wouldn’t work.. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
I used VH to attempt formatting some avi files into mpeg files for burning to DVD. I clearly selected to have them formatted as PAL but when I opened the formatted files in Toast 10 and tried to burn a message alert informed me that my files were still in NSTC format. How is this possible?
Many thanks for for keeping VisualHub available. This is one of the best programs that’s available for working with video. You are certainly doing a great service for people like us. Regards.
Thanks! This seems to be a simple one step process to convert downloaded movies for AppleTV.
Thanks for a great share
Thanks for the info, where do I put that in?
Hey Matt,
You said you reinstalled VH on your Snow Leopard and everything works. Do you burn DVDs using VH also? If yes, do you get any Apple Script error? I’ll try to reinstall mine again, but I seem to get this weird script error everytime I burn a DVD.
I have Snow Leopard, and have been able to convert files. However, I always get an error when I try to burn an avi to DVD. This never happened when I had Tiger. Anyone else experiencing errors when trying to burn to DVD? Anyhow has a solution??? I find that the quality of VH is much better than burning with other programs.
I agree, I tried using FilmRedux which is supposed to be the successor to VisualHub, but it’s total crap. All I get every time I install it are error messages.
I reinstalled my copy of VisualHub on Snow Leopard and it still runs like a charm. I wish the guys at Techspansion would resume development, this really was the best video conversion app around.
thanks for the info.. but do u all have any idea how can i convert RMVB to MP4 or iphone format ?? i am using macbook currently.. do u guys have other software for it… i need it for free…
Thanks a lot
Thanks for keeping this shared.
It’s people like you that keep the internet a nice place.
Long live Visual Hub!
Thanks “cracker” for the registration info!! Worked perfectly.

What format should I save my movie so I can view it on an iPad? Thank you.
While we’re on the topic of VHub – is there any way to set the specific output codec? Say I chose DV – but I want AVID DV not DVCPRO/DV? Anyone?
does anyone else notice additional contrast with the file conversions? i’m trying to make an exact duplicate, which works, however, it always adds contrast. any suggestions?
Awsome, it works perfectly!
Thx for help
