Snow Leopard’s Malware Protection are Insubstantial
According to Intego a Mac security company, the built-in malware protection on Snow Leopard is inadequate. The New Snow Leopard alerts users when a malicious code is found in the downloaded files. Although this is good, it only scans after the download is done and it ignores meta-package files even if they contain viruses.
According to a report the Snow Leopard Virus Protection only scans for two trojan viruses despite of the more known threat. Perhaps the two Malwares are the only ones who could potentially damage your Mac.
This report brought about by an Anti-Virus company could be just a marketing stunt. Apple did not publicized this feature maybe because they are still testing and developing it, we just have to appreciate Apple’s effort. Who knows in the near future Anti-Virus protection will be built-in to Macs and powerful enough that we don’t need to install an Anti-virus, compared to using Windows which rquires you to install third-party malware protection.
With the growth of Macintosh market share, hackers will soon target the Mac and a built-in Anti-virus is a must. We should be glad that Apple is doing something about this.
