SnapNDrag: Free Screen Capture Utility
We all know that our Mac have a built in screen capture utility to it (I just recently blogged about it), but do you know that there’s a free application you can use to help you take screen shots more efficient.
Introducing SnapNDrag by Yellowmug, this simple application helps you make screen shots more efficient. It makes the process of taking screen shots and other related tasks (i.e. sending to email etc.) done with a single click. With Mac’s built in screen shot utility files are saved on your desktop or clipboard, but with SnapNDrag files are saved on a central location and managed with SnapNDrag’s simple interface. Not only that, this free screen capture utility also let you choose where to save files, set the file name, choose image format and more.
Here’s a list of what you can do with SnapNDrag (features):
- Change the file type of the captured screen shot, use either JPG, PNG, GIF or TIFF
- Choose the quality of your Jpeg screen shots
- Initiate screen capture with a click of a button no need to memorize shortcut keys
- Perform timed screen capture
- Change the screen shot size by percentage
- Save the screen shot to a specific location
The Free vesion does all that but you can upgrade to SnapNDrag Pro to do the following:
- Ability to scale down screenshots
- Global hot keys for quick access
- Option to turn off sponsor’s message
So far I’m happy with the free version, no need to upgrade yet.
Installation
Download the DMG file here, mount and copy the SnapNDrag Application to your Apps folder.
Reviews
This is a marvelous program! I really don’t know what I did before I found it and now I can’t imagine how I could live without it. Many thanks to the developers.
Not only is SnapNDrag a great little app, but the developer has been very responsive regarding adding new features. I requested the latest feature, about having SnapNDrag “remember the current border setting across restarts” less than three weeks ago, and now it has already been implemented. As of this version, setting the border width becomes a default … just set it once, and forget about ever having to do it again!

My personal take on this, is that the applications works as advertised, no quirks or problem that I’m aware of right now. It would have been better if the made the filechute, easycrop, and easyfame functions buil-in. It could have been more powerful, but why complain the Screen Capture Utility works well, after all it’s FREE!
