How to Sync/Pair your Apple Remote with your Mac
Macbooks, iMacs, Apple TV and Mac Minis supports Apple remote which enables you to control your it remotely via infrared reception (IR). If you have one or more mac, chances are you could really get confused of which Remote controls which Mac or you want to control other Macs with just one Apple Remote,. To do this you need to pair or sync the IR remote one at a time.
Here’s how to Pair / Sync your remote with a Mac.
- Log in as an Admin user.
- Get near to your Mac (3 or 4 inches away).
- Point the remote at the infrared sensor on the front of your Mac. Just make sure they are both in their line-of-sight.
- Hold down the Menu and Next/Fast-forward buttons simultaneously on the remote for 5 seconds.
The Apple Remote i paired with your Mac when you see a chain-link style lock appear in the center of your screen.
How to turn off infrared reception on a Mac
You can disable infrared reception by going to System Preferences and unchecking this option.. Simply:
- On the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
- Click Security
- Select the “Disable remote control infrared receiver” checkbox.
