Before the introduction of the App store, you need a Credit Card, or an iTunes Gift Card to be able to download these free stuff. Perhaps Apple thought that kids who like to download free apps doesn’t have their own credit card. Here’s a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how too create a free iTunes account. Please take not that you need to signup under US iTunes store, other country settings only have App store and you can get access to free music and video.

To be able to download free music and videos you need to set your location to US. You can use any US area code (i used 90210 beverly hills CA). You can invent the phone number make sure the first box have three number area code and phone number have seven numbers.
