The BassJump looks better than it sounds
Remember the BassJump portable subwoofer for mac which we checked out earlier?, It does look good right? However according to a review conducted by Gizmodo, the BassJump lacks bass. It seems that it can’t make the bass jump that far.
The tenor range, generally underrepresented by my MBP, is audible with the BassJump. The Beatles, especially, were hugely improved through the richer vocals and guitar riffs provided by the mini sub. Walking to the next room and closing my eyes, I decided my MacBook now sounded like a low-level iPod dock.
In fairness the BassJump really does make your Macbook sound better but not that good compared to a dedicated subwoofer. At a selling price of $80 US, I think it’s better to get 2.1 speaker system with real subwoofer. Well the design is really good, let’s just hope that twelvesouth will come up with more powerfull BassJump soon.
Thanks Mark [gizmodo]

Hey MacHoe! Thanks for the post. Just wanted to add a few comments to help your readers understand the BassJump a little better. The BassJump is a ‘portable’ subwoofer for MacBook. It runs off USB power alone. It is not designed to be a replacement for a larger 2.1 home system, it’s for travel and on the go, just like your MacBook. It makes the small onboard MacBook speakers sound tremendously better than they do without. When evaluated properly for what it is, it is a tremendous addition to any MacBook travel arsenal… when a 100 watt 12-inch Sub just won’t fit in your carry-on
