The JooJoo vs Apple iPad

The iPad is the latest innovation from Apple but the JooJoo (which means magic) which is previously known as the CrunchPad was announced earlier (thus we cannot label it as an iPad Clone), both are still in production and not yet available anywhere. As an Apple Fanboy you may find me a bit bias but I’ll try not to. So what’s the difference between Fusion Garage’s Joojoo and Apple’s iPod? Aside from the obvious I have listed the difference between the two tablet computer.

Difference Between Joojoo and iPad

  1. Screen Size – The Joojoo have a 12.1  inch widescreen, 1366 x 768 display bigger than the iPad’s 9.7 inch. 1024 x 768 screen.
  2. Size and Weight – Joojoo’s size is 199 x 325.5 x 3.8-18.9mm weights 1.1 kg way bigger than the iPad at 242.8 x 189.7 x 13.4mm, but the iPad is lighter at 1.5 pounds or 0.68 kg
  3. Wireless – the Joojoo is equipped with bluetooth 2.1 EDR and WiFi b/g, while the iPad have WiFi b/g/n and a 3G option which includes UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
  4. Camera – The iPad doesn’t have any but the Joojoo have one which you can use for video conferencing
  5. Ports and connectors -  Both have a 3.5mm headphone Jack, built-in speakers and a microphone but the Joojoo have 1 usb port
  6. Memory – The iPad is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB while the Joojoo only have 4GB of internal memory
  7. Sensor – Both have Accelerometer and an Ambient Light sensor but the iPad have GPS, and a digital compass
  8. Software – The Joojoo’s OS is browser based which supports Flash video while the iPad is based on iPhone OS and its buil-in browser Safari have no Flash Support.
  9. Battery Life – The Joojoo lasts 5 hours on wi-fi but the iPad doubles it at 10 hours battery life.
  10. Accessories – The Joojoo only have a “Dock” while the iPad have plenty of accessories from other third-party manufacturers

The Verdict

The Joojoo may be have a bigger and wider screen but it’s half a kilo heavier than the iPad, it’s a tad bulkier too making it the less portable. Although the Joojoo will soon have it’s own App Store, Apple’s iPad already have an App Store and can use the millions of Apps already available for the iPhone or iPod Touch. I think it maybe too late for Joojoo’s App Store, it would have been better if Joojoo runs on Google’s Android. The only advantage of the Joojoo againts the iPad is its “Flash” support, you may think that the bigger screen is another advantage but I think in the world of netpad or tabblet computers big LCD is not always better, it drains the battery and affects portability as well. Aside from Apple’s App Store another arsenal that makes the iPad invulnerable to these “iPad Killers” is the iTunes Store – I think It’s obvious. And lastly the iPad is equipped with 3G so you can buy a song or movie, browse the internet, use maps vitually anywhere, burying the Joojoo six feet under.

Although the Joojoo was announced earlier than the iPad, it already died before it can even be considered as an iPad Killer. Fusion Garage have to rebuilt the Joojoo, add 3G or built it on Android for it to bite a bit on the iPad’s market share. Or they should just cancel the Joojoo and create a new tablet after all the word Joojoo also means karma or badluck.
