iPod Touch and iPhone’s 2.1 Firmware

iPhone 2.1 firmware should be available now with major bug fixes promised by Apple’s bigman himself.

“The [iPhone] 2.1 software update is a big update. It fixes lots of bugs,” said Apple chief executive Steve Jobs. “You’ll get fewer call drops; you’ll get significantly improved battery life for most customers.”

Steve Jobs said that the update will patch a number of bugs related to third-party App Store applications, namely crashes experienced by those users who’ve installed a large number of apps. Backing up to iTunes will also be “dramatically faster,” he added. some of the other “great new performance enhancements” are alreay being discovered by first-generation iPod touch owners who’ve just installed iPod touch 2.1. which is released earlier than the iPhone Firmware.

We have an official list of the changes in the iPod Touch’s Firmware. the list include:

- Genius playlist creation
- Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
- Improved email reliability, notable fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
- Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes if you have lots of 3rd party applications
- Faster loading and searching of contacts
- Faster App updates and installation
- When viewing songs it says Artist And Album underneath the Song title.
- Podcast has more descriptive information
- Can now selectively mute certain sound effects (new mail, key taps)
- More responsive
- Other bug fixes

The iPod Touch Firmware is now available for download via iTunes. The 2.1 firmware is free for existing 2.0 customers while iPod Touch owners still running 1.0 software can purchase the software for $9.95.
