ziPhone, iJailbreak : 1st true iPhone unlock

If you’re happy with your OTB (out of the box) iPhone running on a carrier that apple picked, then wait till you jailbreaked it.. thanks to the hacker community! The Jailbreak unlocks it and enables tons of capabilities to your iPhone, you can install games, and add new features to your iPhone even make it as a remote touch pad for your computer.

The 1st Jailbreak method i known was using the site www.jailbreakme.com – only works with 1.1.1 firmware iphone, this jailbreak uses a Safari exploit to run Apptap to install “Installer”. Installer is like a repository of Apps you can put to your iphone, you can install, update and uninstall Apps with it’s intuitive interface, once you have installer you can run “Anysim” to unlock your phone.

Then 1.1.2 firmware arrives, the hackers come up with a new method done by downgrading to 1.1.1, installing “octoprep” via installer before upgrading to 1.1.2, once updated it can now be jailbroken and unlocked via “independence” and early versions of iJailbreak. OTB 1.1.2 iPhone was easily jailbroken but cannot be unlocked – i have to use the supersim method (sim cloning) which cost almost 100 US Dollars, Anysim for OTB 1.1.2 was created when 1.1.3 arrived.

1.1.3 by far is the most wanted update to the iPhone, the wiggling drag-able icons, multi-page home screen, hybrid map view and locate me feature is irresistible. The Dev Team decides to wait for the iPhone SDK which is due by February ’08, Nate True released the 1st 1.1.3 jailbreak, and the Dev Team finally unable to wait and release it’s jailbreak method, both method includes downgrading to 1.1.1 and performing the previous hacks before proceeding.

Firmware 1.1.3 was unlocked but if you accidentally upgraded to 1.1.3 via iTunes you now have a bricked iPhone or iPhone without the phone functions. The early unlock (anysim 1.1.3) was unsuported by the DevTeam stating that it’s untested and incomplete, after a couple of weeks Geo Hotz finally reversed engineered 1.1.3 and developed a command line unlock. Zibiri created a GUI for windows “the Ziphone” and other developers created “iJailbreak” which also based on Geo Hot’s unlock.

ZiPhone and iJailbreak does not requires downgrade to 1.1.1, and it’s fast only took me a few minute, after doing several hacking method i was amazed by how fast this method is making me believe that it is indeed the 1st True iPhone Unlock.

Credits to Geo Hotz, Zibri and the rest of the iPhone hacking community.
