Jim Reekes – Apple Startup Sound Creator and the Story Behind Ear-conic Sosumi
Here’s an interview of Jim Reekes an Apple Sound Engineer who created that chime you hear when your Mac starts up. In the interview conducted by OneMoreThing (a dutch Apple Blog) Jim told the story how the sound originally called “Chime” renamed to “Sosumi”. It appears that they cannot use the word “Chime”, he might get sued – so at the back of his mind he thought “So sue me!”. Then he come up with the idea of naming the sound to a Japanese word “Sosumi”. Mr. Reekes also called the sound “Ear-conic” rather than “i-conic” as it become the sound which represents Apple.
The video also feature start up sounds that the Macs use before the Sosumi.
