How to Fix iPad Wi-Fi Issues
While overheating issues still is a burden to thousands of early iPad adapters, Apple seems to acknowledge the Wi-Fi issues and identify the problem resulting to a knowledge base entry to help fix it.
Apple claims the iPad may not automatically rejoin a previously known wi-fi network after waking from sleep or restart. The problem occurs to third party W-Fi routers that have dual band capability.
Issue #1: To fix the problem of iPad not able to rejoin known networks, you need to follow the following steps:
- Create separate Wi-Fi network names to identify each band. This can be done easily by appending one or more characters to the current network name. Example: Add a G to the 802.11b/g network name and an N to the 802.11n network name.
- Ensure that both networks use the same security type (WEP, WPA, WPA2, and so on)
- If the issue persists, reset your network settings using Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Apple also emphasized that you should also keep your router firmware updated.
Issue #2: Fix Slow Internet Connection
- Go to Settings on the iPad
- Select Wi-Fi
- Click the blue disk with the arrow in it beside the network name. (5 GHz network.)
- On the next screen that pops up select “Forget this Network”
- Return to the Wi-Fi screen and then re-select the network you want to join under the “Choose a Network…” option. In this case it was my 5 GHz network and I had to re-enter my password.
That fix deletes the previous network, thus resetting the connection. Some people experiencing slow internet wifi connection noticed that it fixes the problem, while others say it did nothing. The wi-fi signal irregularity may be due to the design of the iPad. The aluminum casing is a signal blocker, the ipad have two antennas one placed behind the black plastic Apple logo and one one under the glass screen.

I fixed my iPad (iOS 4.2.1) by upgrading my Linksys router firmware to latest release. I went from <1-3mb a sec to 22+mb a sec. I also turned off notifications for apps.
router: Linksys WRT310N
I had terrible wifi probs. iPad kept disconnecting after ten mins until I ditched the apple iPad case. That was definitely affecting my wifi. With a new case that leaves the black plastic bit at the top exposed, it works great.
Ps. I bought a macally bookstand case that did the job for me.
I’m using Google’s DNS (8.8.8.8) and my YouTube is pretty snappy.and i often download youtube to iphone by use Aneesoft youtube converter,.lol……..and now im very enjoy it.
