Israeli Government Lifts iPad Ban Amidst Controversies
You might find this news irrelevant, but my friends in Jerusalem should be really happy now that the Israeli government just removed barriers on iPad imports. Those who got their iPad confiscated can now take them from customs although they may still need to pay for the storage fee.
The short lived ban was Israel’s decision following a series of iPad tests which shows that the iPad’s wi0fi transmitter was set to American Standard. Communications Minister Moshe Kachlon just lifted tha ban and states that:
The scrutiny conducted by the ministry technical team vis-à-vis Apple’s team, international laboratory and European counterparts confirmed that the device, which could be operated in various standards, will be operated in Israel in accordance to the local standards
However amidst the decision to allow iPads in Israel, a known Apple importer Boaz Ordan thinks that the ban was issued due to two reasons:
- To prevent the Israeli from finding their own way of getting an iPad. Prolonged delay in the available of the iPad will result in the black market availability resulting to poor iDigital sales – an Apple distributor owned by Israel’s president son.
- Somebody in the Communications Ministry just went deaf, dumb, and blind as there’s really no logical explanation for the ban, just like there isn’t any logical explanation for why it was lifted. The whole thing stinks, like somebody had some interest involved.
To my friends in Israel, whether or not the controversy is true the IMPORTANT thing is, you can now buy iPad on ebay. Just take caution that it may cause sleeping disorders before and after you get to have your iPads.
