After Nine Years, Apple gets Patent for OS X Dock
If you use a PC then you may not be familiar with The Dock, the bar of icons that sits at the bottom or side of a Mac and provides easy access to Apple applications
Finally, Apple has been give patent for its OS X dock after filing almost nine years ago. Apple CEO Steve Jobs is listed as one of its three inventors. Besides the general idea of a userbar with “a plurality of item representations” that consolidates features like “launching and managing running applications,” the patent focuses particularly on the Dock’s magnification feature that makes icons bigger as you sweep by them with a cursor.
Though Apple can be quite aggressive with its patents, it’s uncertain whether Apple would even bother going after generic dock programs. Either way, Apple is no doubt happy to have this one in their pocket after a long, long wait. [via Gizmodo]
So I guess PC owners should get their hopes up in getting the Dock in their PC’s.
