Next iPhone Update Features Expectations
There is still no news of the date when the next iPhone Firmware (v2.2) will be released but “leaks” are already showing. This is another great thing about the iPhone, the regular software updates to make it more secure and better piece of hardware.
Here is a list of the rumored updates that you’ll see on the next firmware update:
1. Google Street View
Rumors of Google Street View appearing on the next update started early this month and screenshots like the one above made this rumor stronger. A useful addition is the public transport information, seen in the picture above. We should also be getting walking directions in addition to the driving directions now available.
2. Direct Podacst Downloads
Another rumored feature is the option to grab more episodes of a subscribed podcast. Couple this with a way to delete the podcasts you’ve already heard, like you can do with video files, and the iPhone is one step closer to being an independent computing platform. You can also see a new Video icon at the bottom which could mean that video podcasts can be watched without using the video player, or that a separate video player has been abolished altogether and simply merged with the iPod.
3. Rating Apps
Another one is the option to rate Apps upon deletion. iPhone Hellas forum tells us that upon deletion of an App in your iPhone you will be presented with a dialog box like above asking you to rate the App.
4. Line-in Support
The Apple Blog reports that the 2.2 software will support “manipulation of line-ln audio accessories.” The iPhone and the 2G iPod Touch already support input through the headphone jack. We’re not sure if this new feature applies to signals coming through this jack, or to audio coming in through the dock connector. If this rumor is true then it could lead to clip-on mics or speakers
5. Emoji Emoticons
Not really that useful but it will surely look good or will even make messaging fun.
6. Location Sharing
This feature will allow users to share location details via e-mail, and when another iPhone owner clicks on a link in that mail, they’ll see a map of your location in the Maps application.
7. Safari Tweaks
Safari is also rumored to have some tweaks and will have a new design. a slightly cleaner layout where Google gets its own spot in the search bar, the loss of the search icon and the relocation of the reload arrow to inside the URL bar. Expect more interface tweaks across the whole OS.
8. Copy and Paste
Nope, not really, sorry….. [Wired]
