DRM-free Music Will be Available on iTunes Soon
According to 9to5Mac, Sony will soon offer their music catalog to Apple in the iTunes Plus format. iTunes Plus is Apple’s marketing term for higher quality (256kbit) audio tracks without any DRM.
Let’s just say we have a hunch on this one. Sony iTunes Plus high quality AAC files coming to the iTunes store in the next few weeks/months..same deal, 256kbit quality, no DRM.
Apple’s is willing to sell DRM-free music while other major record labels have withheld this ability from the company in an effort to reduce iTunes’ marketshare in digital music downloads. The one who benefits the most appears to be Amazon who is offering DRM-free digital downloads from all four major music studios.
If this rumor is true then Apple could possibly announced this news next year on their Macworld San Francisco event. [9to5mac]
