JBL Onstage Micro III and Onstage IV
JBL updates its Onstage line of portable load speaker for iPhones and iPods. The new design features a futuristic twist design which the company refer to as “Weave” and a transparent dock with LED battery status indicator. JBL Onstage Micro II and Onstage IV looks identical as both features touch controls, USB syncing port, AC power connector, stereo mini jack and Infrared Remote. However, the Onstage IV boasts louder speakers as it includes four 25mm JBL Odyssey transducers, while the Micro III only have two. The smaller Onstage Micro III requires four AAA batteries, measures 57mm x 168mm x 168mm, weights 0.36kg and is cheaper at $100 while the bigger version measures 68mm x 210mm x 210mm, weights 0.7kg and runs on six AA batteries and is priced at $150.

Unlike Logitech which uses built-in rechargeable batteries on its S715i, JBL retains on using AA and AAA batteries, you can however buy a separate rechargeable battery if you find using disposables irresponsible. That’s great, you can use rechargeables and buy disposable batteries when you need, but it could have been better if JBL’s Onstage speaker dock includes rechargeable batteries and charges it as well.
