How to save Youtube videos to your Camera Roll
This tutorial is intended for educational purposes only, and you should not save
or reproduce copywrited materials on youtube. However, you can download videos without copywrite restrictions.
About a year ago the only way to save movies to your iOS device is to jailbreak it, and use MxTube [link] Cydia App. Nowadays, non-jailbreakers can do the same as there are now lots of application with the same functionality on the iTunes app store and most of them are free. So far the best video downloader I have yet to use is Video Downloader Pro and the best thing about this app is that it allows you to copy downloaded video to your camera roll allowing you to use it on iMovie or any other video editing app. So without further talk, here’s a tutorial on how to download youtube videos to your iOS device, and save it on your camera roll.
- Download Video Downloader Pro or its equivalent “free” version. The free and full version is identical in features, but the paid version allows you to save unlimited videos within the app, and doesn’t come with annoying ad.
- Open the application and use the built in browser to go to youtube. Use youtube’s search function to look for videos. Play the video, then choose “pre-load to memory” to download the video while watching it. If you clicked cancel, the same dialog box will appear when you pause then play the video. You can stop watching the video and the app will continue
saving it in the “Downloads Menu”.
- After downloading touch the arrow within the blue circle. Just beside the video details.
- You can now set a desired file name to the video. Press the “save to camera roll button” to copy the movie to the camera roll.
After putting the video to the camera roll, you can do almost anything to it. You can even edit the movie and upload it to other video sharing site, straight from your iPhone or iPad.
One feature I like is the ability to set a passcode lock which gives extra privacy to those who plan to store videos right within the app. Video Downloader Pro supports other mobile video websites with standard video formats like mp4, mov, m4v, 3gp, mpeg and m3u8 video streaming which gives me an idea why you might need passcode lock within a downloader. Pretty neat eh? Also, AppleTV owner can stream downloaded video using airplay.
If you know an app that is better than the featured application? Let us know in the comments section.
