Open Tech, Another Mac OS X Compatible PC?
Open tech, a new company to bring yet another Mac OS X compatible PC believes it has found a loophole that prevents legal action from Apple. Totally ignoring the action taken by Apple against Psystar, the company that brought us tyhe Open Computer (formerly OpenMac).
Open Tech Inc is launching two Mac OS X compatible computers, the Open Tech Home and the Open Tech XT, that are effectively just custom-built Intel systems based on commonly available parts. Here are the specs for the following OS X compatible computers:
Open Tech Home:
Intel Pentium D 945 3.40GHz Dual-Core Processor
500 Gb Hard Drive (7200 Rpm)
3 GB of DDR2 Ram (667 MHz PC 5400)
Geforce 8600 GT 512MB DDR2
Optical Drive ( Burn and read dvd’s and cd’s)
500 Watt Power Supply
Power Up ATX mid-tower case-Black
Integrated Wi-Fi 802.11g
Open Tech XT:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz Processor
4GB DDR2 800MHz Memory
640GB Hard drive- 7200 RPM
8800 GT 256mb
Optical Drive ( Burn and read dvd’s and cd’s)
CoolerMaster ATX Mid-Tower Case
Integrated Wi-Fi 802.11g
Unlike Psystar’s Open Computer (formerly OpenMac), Open Tech hopes to promise Mac compatibility while avoiding a conflict with Apple’s Software License Agreement that forbids selling Mac OS X installed on non-Apple hardware. Instead of installing Mac OS X itself or bundling a copy with the sale, Open Tech is offering its customers a mystery “do-it-yourself kit” that will guide them through installing a separately-purchased copy of the Apple software. The company itself would absolve itself of responsibility and put the focus on the user.
