The 4th Gen iPod Nano
As expected, Apple released the rumored skinny 4th gen iPod Nano on its “Let’s Rock” last Sept 9. The new iPod Nano has the same size screen as the 3rg gen iPod Nano, 8GB and 16GB storage and the same video support as the 3rd gen iPod Nano, with a much more comfortable oval shape, a curved screen, an accelerometer and a much improved user interface. Some of the key features of the new iPod Nano are the following:
- The thinnest iPod ever, and smallest by volume
- First iPod Nano that uses USB charging only
- Enhanced User Interface
- Accelerometer
- Shake to Shuffle feature
- Genius playlist
- Battery lasts for 24 hours for music and 4 hours for video.
- Available in 9 Colors: silver, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, black
The new iPod Nanos are easier to handle that the previous model, the curved shape feels much better that the fat 3rd gen iPod Nano. The brushed metal looks and feels great, and is much less scratch-prone. And it is less conspicuous in your pocket than the fat 3rd Gen version because it is considered as the thinnest iPod ever because it is tapered on the sides.
Another improvement that you’ll notice on the new iPod Nano is that user interface is easier to use. The new menu and display fills up the entire top half of device, which gives you more list items at once. Scrolling through menus and Cover Flow is as fast as anyone has seen in any iPod. There is also the Genius Playlist which recommends music already on your device based a starting point of any song in your library. Another feature you’ll love is the shake to shuffle feature, just shake your iPod Nano and it will shuffle the songs in your playlist. Shake to Shuffle won’t work unless screen is active and hold is off.
The new iPod Nano is available for $149 for the 8GB and $199 for the 16GB model. The 8GB should already be available now and the 16GB model is scheduled to appear in stores next week.
